New TheatrE program april

Dear readers,

Being an adult is basically just learning to navigate through chaos. And sometimes that goes surprisingly well, sometimes a bit less so. April is the month where we celebrate exactly that...

We have two shows for you that prove nobody really has it figured out. From searching for home and identity to family secrets that turn everything upside down. Honest, funny, and deeply relatable stories about the beautiful mess of being human.

Sound familiar? Read on!

Cheers, Team Scala

English Shows in April

Francesca Paola - Small Town Girl (April 24)
Where is home when you've moved multiple times? Italian singer-songwriter Francesca Paola explores identity and belonging through heartfelt songs. Energetic, warm, and full of self-reflection. Because figuring out where you belong is part of the chaos too.

Sharon Em - I Know a Guy (April 17)
A family secret that changes everything. With dry humor and raw honesty, Sharon brings a hilarious yet moving show about the unexpected chaos life throws at you. Edinburgh Fringe favorite, nominated for Best Debut.

More international shows in April:

Rico Weeland - Close-up Miracles (3 & 10 April)
Award-winning illusionist takes you on a 20-minute journey through time, revealing ancient secrets and illusions. Meet the pioneers who shaped magic into the fascinating art form it is today.

Greg Shapiro - Leaving Trumpland (10 & 24 April)
Sharp mix of stand-up, cabaret and Trump-inspired improv by Dutch-American comedian (Boom Chicago, Comedy Central). Travel through Trump's America, or better yet: escape it together.

Sjaak Hartog - Van Gogh in the Afterlife (6 & 13 April)
Absurdly comic monologue about Vincent van Gogh leaving heaven after arguing with God about heavenly style (provided by Michelangelo, of course). Sharp humor meets compelling storytelling.

Yoran de Bont - Lost & Found (17th of April)
We all lose something: a coat, an umbrella, yourself. A beautiful song circle featuring music by The Wanderer, Stef Bos and Jeangu Macrooy, performed by one of the Netherlands' most beautiful voices.

Zippo - Magic & Movement (various dates)
Unique mix of magic, physical theater and contemporary dance creates moving visual stories. A wordless solo full of contrasts, wonder and universal emotions. No language barrier, just pure theatrical magic.

Job alert

Marketing & Events Intern wanted!

Run projects. Create events. Write copy. Make Scala come alive. With us, no standard internship, but fully contributing to a small team where theater and hospitality is combined.

Your ideas? We execute them. Your initiative? We value it. From social media campaigns to organizing audition days: you make it happen. Theater, hospitality and culture come together here and you're right in the middle of the action.

We tailor the internship to your learning objectives and interests. Independent work, room for creativity and a team that pushes you to get better.

What is Scala?

Scala is a unique venue in Amsterdam combining theater with a food bar. Unlike most theaters with one show per evening, Scala presents three or four 20-minute performances (across all genres) three times each night. A new show starts every 15 minutes, allowing guests to decide how many performances they watch and when to start their evening. We offer a stage to talented artists who increasingly struggle to find affordable venues to present themselves and develop new work.

What we're looking for:

Study in marketing/events/hospitality, minimum 24 hours per week, 4 months, good command of English (Dutch is a plus but not required), strong communication and writing skills, independent and proactive attitude.

Start: summer 2026. Send your CV to info@scala-amsterdam.nl
